An Afternoon Where the Soul Was Stirred

Wirral Winter Charity Concert 5

13 Dec 2025

On Sunday 16th November 2025, at 3.30pm in Heswall Quaker Meeting House, the Wirral Unitarians held their Classic Charity Concert, raising £420 for the wonderful work of Claire House.

It was one of those rare afternoons where time seemed to slow just enough to let the music do what it does best. From the first notes to the final applause, the room was filled with warmth, generosity, and a quiet sense of gratitude. There was a particular tenderness in the Irish pieces that gently caught the heart, songs that seemed to carry memory, longing, and home within them, though every performer contributed something special to what became a truly shared experience.

As I said in the thank-you at the end, I’d been listening to Classic FM on the drive over, and the presenter offered this simple invitation: “Let your mind rest, and your soul stir.” That, I think, perfectly captured what unfolded that afternoon.

Our thanks go especially to Richard Merritt for his musical leadership and accompaniment, and to all the performers and volunteers who gave their time so freely to make the concert possible. It was, quite simply, a lovely afternoon
